Video — weighing anchor under sail. Children under sail, with Central America’s premier Caribbean resort on the horizon

It’s rare for a video to make it all the way to our website—or even onto the internet at all :). Once we master the editing software and settle down to process miles of footage, who knows, we might even reinvent ourselves as video bloggers.

For now, here’s a short film by the captain about weighing anchor under sail (I think that’s what it was about, because the film was edited ages ago and uploaded to YouTube quite a while back too, while the internet signal is only strong enough to make it public and embed it here. We can’t actually watch it—the original footage is back home, home is a long row away, and we’re in an internet café. In short, one of those funny quirks of life aboard and on the road :). You can have the chairs or the money; rarely both at once.

I also seem to remember that the backing track was very heroic, about how “the ships will linger, then set their course”—that was the mood we were in: singing and listening to Vysotsky around the clock.

At the time shown in the video, our transmission was simply broken, so for about a month we anchored and weighed anchor beautifully, exclusively under sail, in the finest traditions of Jack Sparrow :).

Later, in Puerto Aventuras, our valiant captain-cum-yacht mechanic fixed everything. Now we anchor and weigh anchor like everyone else again—under engine. Ah, romance, where have you gone...!

And now, here we go 🙂

Another Mexican video, featuring the wild screams of unknown creatures, is here: The Horror of the Night Jungle >>
