Laaand!!! After 12 Days on the Open Sea Guys, we’re ashore! Twelve days on the open sea, with no land and not even any ships. We made it almost to Gibraltar —1,100 miles non-stop. That’s a first for us. Now I understand the seafarers of old even better: staring at the horizon for days on end, then suddenly picking out, amid a jumble of translucent clouds, the thing they had been waiting so long to see: “Land!” We got through two near-gales, tore a sail, carried out a heap of minor repairs while hanging over the side, and we’re generally exhausted. Details to come. For now, I’m dreaming of a simple human pleasure—standing under a hot shower for 15 minutes straight. Today, I can. For the first time in 2.5 months. Hooray! ))
