In the South Pacific, between 32 and 37 degrees south latitude, several phantom islands are clustered together. Seafarers from different eras marked them on charts, but neither expeditions mounted at the end of the last century nor satellites orbiting the Earth found them in this area. Nevertheless, Wachusett Reef, 1957 Reef, Ernest Legouvé Reef and the legendary Maria Theresa Reef still appear on charts in the 21st century.
